Ever since UNC basketball standout Drake Powell annonced the door is closed on a potential return to Chapel Hill, people have been wondering who Hubert Davis will bring in to help out the new-look roster. At the same time, fans are also wondering where Powell will end up.
Some mock drafts have him sneaking into the first round, but the majority of late have him going in the second round. That's exactly what ESPN sees happening, as its post-combine mock draft has Powell being the first player taken off the board after the first round wraps up.
While that wouldn't be ideal for the former Tar Heels playmaker, the good news here is that ESPN thinks Powell will end up joining the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Wolves are in the Western Conference Finals and Anthony Edwards has the future looking bright. Add Powell into the mix?
ESPN's new Mock Draft has Drake Powell going in Round 2 to the Timberwolves
How would everyone feel about Powell making his way to Minnesota? It remains a bummer that he won't be back suiting up for Davis, especially with him showing promise as a true freshman this past campaign - he averaged 7.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per contest.
When Powell signed with the Heels, people all over the state were elated. He did so ranked as a 5-star prospect and the No. 2 SF in the country. With him ready to chase his NBA dreams, though, it has provided the Heels with a big hole to fill, and it's one that Davis is struggling to come up with a solution for.
With all of that said, Powell is getting ready to hear his name called in draft next month and there's been plenty of buzz surrounding his name in recent weeks. Boston is another team that has been consistently been linked to him too. Soon enough we'll find out where Powell will be playing next season, but if ESPN is on the money with its prediction, Minnesota sure would be a great landing spot for him.
