Michael Malone and the Tar Heels are underway in their pursuit to build a roster for the 2026-2027 season, as more transfer portal targets continue to emerge.

Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports added an interesting one to the mix, citing that North Carolina is showing 'strong interest' in an international product who spent his freshman season at Virginia Tech.

UNC showing 'strong interest' in Virginia Tech transfer Neoklis Avdalas

According to Rothstein, the Tar Heels are among the long list of potential suitors for former Virginia Tech guard Neoklis Avdalas. The 6-foot-9 guard from Kalamata, Greece is not expected to take any official visits before deciding on his future home.

There's a lot to like about Avdalas' skillset, as he's a guy who can do a little bit of everything. For starters, his size at the guard position is Magic Johnson like, as he is capable of defending multiple positions given his size and athleticism.

While three-point shooting wasn't his best trait as a freshman (knocking down just 31.4% of his shots from beyond-the-arc), he is a guy who can attack the basket and finish strong at the rim. If he's not scoring, he's facilitating for his teammates, as he averaged 4.6 assists per-game.

In Michael Malone's system, one that relies heavily on players being able to make the right reads to generate open looks, Avdalas would fit very nicely in the scheme and could even potentially take that next step forward in his overall development.

There will be a lot of names thrown around regarding potential fits for UNC to add during this transfer portal cycle, but Avdalas' name should be near the top of any "wish list" that Tar Heel fans put together while they wait and see what Malone and his staff cook up for next year's squad.
