Kevin Thomas commits to North Carolina
Former LSU commit and four-star forward Kevin Thomas has committed to Michael Malone and the UNC basketball program. This announcement comes as Thomas is currently on his official visit in Chapel Hill, as Joe Tipton of On3 was the first to report the news.

This was a low-key development, as Thomas wasn't necessarily on North Carolina's radar during his initial recruitment process. However, Michael Malone and his staff have identified him as a long-term contributor to the program and hope to unlock his full potential now that he has pledged to the Tar Heels.
As his visit to campus inched closer, all signs pointed to this pairing actually happening. This was one that made sense for both sides, as Thomas was looking for a new home following LSU's coaching change, while North Carolina aspired to add some more quality talent to its roster for the upcoming 2026-2027 season.
Thomas might not be the highest-ranked player among the top 100 players in his class (coming in at No. 94 overall in Rivals' rankings), but this addition has the potential to be a major steal if all goes well.

Tar Heel fans know of many former players who weren't top-tier recruits who ended up being stars when they arrived in Chapel Hill. The potential is certainly there for Thomas to join that club of players.

Thomas becomes the fourth freshman addition in this recruiting class, as he joins five-stars Maximo Adams and Sayon Keita, along with combo guard Malloy Smith. There is still some wiggle room on the roster for the coaching staff to work with, as it's possible that at least one or two more additions will come over the next few weeks.
