Just when Jalen Davis' recruitment seemed to be nearing the finish line, Michael Malone and North Carolina got another chance to make their pitch.

This latest development could end up being a big one.

According to a new report by Eric Bossi of 247Sports, Davis, one of the nation's premier guards in the 2027 recruiting class, is planning an additional unofficial visit to Chapel Hill.

The development comes as the four-star prospect prepares for an official visit to Gonzaga this weekend.

With Davis recently narrowing his recruitment to four programs, the timing of another trip to Chapel Hill is certainly intriguing.

Jalen Davis isn't done visiting Chapel Hill

On Tuesday, Davis announced that his recruitment had narrowed to North Carolina, Gonzaga, UCLA, and Washington, but a day later, more important information regarding his recruitment surfaced.

Davis previously visited North Carolina on October 3, allowing Malone and his staff to showcase their vision for the program. However, one trip to Chapel Hill apparently wasn't enough for the four-star recruit.

Now, Davis is reportedly planning to return to Chapel Hill for an unofficial visit, although the exact date has not been announced.

Meanwhile, the talented guard is scheduled to visit Gonzaga this weekend, where he'll get another opportunity to evaluate Mark Few's program.

For North Carolina, the additional visit represents an encouraging development.

Remember, the Tar Heels weren't even included in Davis' original list of 10 finalists back in August. Since then, Malone and his staff have worked their way into the picture, secured an official visit, made the final four and now reportedly have another visit on the horizon.

That's quite a bit of progress in a relatively short period of time.

Michael Malone has another opportunity to make his pitch

North Carolina has already made a major splash in the 2027 recruiting class with the commitment of five-star forward DeMarcus Henry.

Adding Davis would give Malone another elite prospect to help build the future of Carolina basketball.

There's plenty to like about what Davis could bring to Chapel Hill. The talented guard is known for his scoring ability, basketball IQ and versatility, with the ability to contribute both on and off the ball.

During the Adidas 3SSB circuit this summer, Davis averaged more than 24 points per game and showcased the offensive skills that have made him one of the country's most coveted guards in the country.

Of course, the Tar Heels still have plenty of competition.

Gonzaga, UCLA, and Washington aren't going quietly, and Davis still hasn't publicly announced a commitment date.

An additional visit doesn't guarantee that North Carolina will ultimately land his commitment, but it does mean the Tar Heels are getting another chance to make an impression at a crucial point in his recruitment.

Considering how quickly Malone has elevated North Carolina's standing with Davis, that's an opportunity worth getting excited about.

You have to look at this as a good sign for UNC as they aim to add the guard they covet on the high school recruiting trail. It goes to show that there is heavy mutual interest, and likely indicates that Davis wants one last look at what Chapel Hill has to offer before he makes his final decision.

Having Davis on campus before his decision, one that is expected to occur during the upcoming early signing period, could be the difference maker in this recruitment.
