Well, so much for Caleb Wilson's injury being not as serious as we thought.

UNC provides an update on Caleb Wilson's injury

On Thursday afternoon, the UNC basketball program released the below message, one that Tar Heel fans will not be happy to hear...

Wilson has a fracutred left hand.

The initial x-rays that were taken during the game against Miami came back as negative, but further imaging that was conducted in Chapel Hill revealed the fracture. As of now, there is no timetable for his return to action.

This might be a while...

While he definitely is out against Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon, it might be weeks before Wilson is able to fully return from this injury.

Based on the severity of the injury, Wilson might not be able to return before the regular season comes to a close.

Now, it's important not to speculate, as the hope is that he will be able to miss as little time as possible. As we all know, Wilson is vital to the UNC basketball program, and his injury is a major blow for a team who is looking to get on a roll to cap off the regular season.

A historic freshman season

Wilson has taken Chapel Hill by storm, putting together a historic freshman season. He continues to set records essentially every time he touches the floor, as no freshman in the history of the program can match what he's able to do in his limited time on campus.

Now, the hope is that his freshman (and likely last) season at North Carolina isn't over, with the hope that a return to the court is in the cards for the Atlanta, Georgia native.

For now, UNC must pivot, as the "next man up" mentality has to hold true for this Tar Heel team who aims to make a deep postseason run come March.
