Some Tar Heel fans were awake when Seth Trimble shared a post announcing that he would be transferring, while others woke up to the brutal news, serving as a rough way to start a Wednesday morning.
Trimble will be heading back to the college route, as he officially committed to Pat Kelsey and the Louisville Cardinals. If the current judge's ruling regarding eligibility for the Class of 2022 stands, Trimble will not only gain another season of eligibility, but will also compete against his former team twice, returning home to the Dean Smith Center during conference action.
Before the decision of where he was transferring came along, Trimble made sure to pen a heartfelt message to Carolina faithful on his social media to explain the situation.

Trimble shared the below post on social media, one that provides some clarity to his situation. To no surprise, the former Tar Heel showed a tremendous amount of love toward the University of North Carolina, but also explained the circumstances that led him to have to pursue other opportunities.

"Carolina, I’ve had the best four years that anybody could ask for. Through thick and thin, I gave my absolute all and represented this university and that jersey every single day because this place means the world to me. And I’ll continue to represent this university for the rest of my life.
I’ve been considering returning to college the whole summer now, and Carolina was always in the running, but with a full roster at UNC, and other circumstances, I won’t be able to return home and will be transferring.
Know that the love I have for this place is irreplaceable, I will forever come back home and honor this place like I’ve done and like the ones before me do, I love you Carolina 🤞🏽🩵"
Even though he competed in NBA Summer League action with the Washington Wizards, Trimble noted how a return to the college ranks was always in the picture. If the circumstances allowed it, Trimble would've probably returned to North Carolina for his fifth season, but a full roster and other circumstances (as he put it) forced him to look elsewhere.
This situation is one of those that shows how wild the state of college athletics currently is. Trimble is one of those guys that should never wear another uniform at the college ranks, especially for a rival ACC program. However, there's no fault to be had, given UNC's hands were tied.
In this very rare situation, one that likely won't ever happen again, can you blame UNC for securing eligible talent to fill the roster?
The sad answer is no, even though we all love and appreciate what Seth Trimble did during his time at North Carolina.
The Tar Heels' loss is the Cardinals' gain, as Trimble will provide a steady presence in the backcourt for Louisville if his newly-acquired season of eligibility stands. While we all wish Trimble the absolute best, it is going to be extremely weird having to compete against him twice this upcoming season, especially when he returns to Chapel Hill as a member of the opposing squad.
Trimble's case goes to show just how crazy college athletics currently are. Anything (literally) can happen, and circumstances tend to change at the drop of a hat. The now former Tar Heel did a great job explaining his situation while reminding us all that he will always bleed Carolina blue, regardless of where life takes him.
