Well, the rumors and speculation are officially true.
If the current eligibility ruling stands, Seth Trimble will be playing college basketball next season, but it won't be for the UNC basketball program.
The speculation began earlier this week when interest from other programs started to surface. Add that to the fact that UNC completed its roster with the addition of Cameron Fens, leaving a roster logjam that had Trimble essentially as the odd-man out.
Now, not only has Trimble found a new home, but is heading to a place where he'll get two cracks at his former team this season.

Pete Thamel of ESPN was the first to report that Trimble has committed to Pat Kelsey and the Lousiville Cardinals. When the rumors of him transferring surfaced, Louisville was the program that was making the most noise in his recruitment.

If it isn't bad enough that we have to watch Trimble finish his college basketball career in another uniform, we'll have to watch him compete against his former team twice.

Thamel added to his report that Trimble noted how he considers UNC his home and appreciated his time in Chapel Hill. However, the roster logjam in Chapel Hill led him to look elsewhere, landing him with a Louisville squad that has loaded up this offseason via the transfer portal.

Now, before we start the blame game, let's take a minute to understand the circumstances at hand.
Michael Malone and his staff couldn't wait around to see if Trimble was going to be eligible. If they did, they would've likely missed out on some of the key transfers they brought in, as his return (even if they used the final roster spot for him) would've just created a logjam in the backcourt while the program still faced question marks in the frontcourt.

Additionally, the NCAA is fighting hard to overturn this ruling, which is adding another layer of chaos to this situation. There's still a chance this group doesn't even get to play this season, as the NCAA is focused on ensuring that their previous decision, one that didn't grandfather in this class of student-athletes, is the answer to the problem at hand.
Overall, this is a nightmare for UNC fans. Trimble is one of those guys who should play his entire college career in Carolina Blue, but now will potentially not only end his career elsewhere, but will do so with another ACC squad. Add that to the fact that they are on UNC's schedule twice this year, meaning there will be a night this winter where Trimble runs out of the Dean Smith Center tunnel as a member of the opposing team.
This all just doesn't seem right.
