The good things that Seth Trimble did at North Carolina outweighed the bad, but unfortunately, the senior guard's final game as a Tar Heel will be remembered more for what the team didn't do -- advance out of the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

National analyst fires off a Hubert Davis message that UNC can't ignore

It's not fair that missing a couple of free throws down the stretch of Thursday's 82-78 overtime loss against VCU should taint his overall body of work in Chapel Hill, but life isn't fair and Trimble understands that's part of the gig. Still, he's still grateful for the experience.

"I mean it's been the best journey that I could've dreamed of. You know I faced everything here. I succeeded. I failed. Each and every day I put in so much and a lot was given back to me," Trimble said. "A huge part of that is because of where I was, the jersey I put on and the university I attended. I'm just super super grateful."

Seth Trimble puts his time at North Carolina into perspective

Much like the understandable anger that fans have placed on Hubert Davis after another disappointing tournament exit, there's frustration with the way Trimble went out. This was a North Carolina team that needed him at his best to make any kind of noise and while 15 points, eight rebounds and six assists was a fine game, the Tar Heels needed more from him. And going 4-of-7 from the free-throw line really sticks out in a game decided by a possession or two.

It's hard to say if time will be kind to Trimble. He was part of Carolina's Sweet 16 team in 2024, but he was coming off the bench. The past two years, it was Trimble's team and he has to wear these disappointments. But it's clear that he loved the program, he loved the school and, through the achievements and the adversity, he loved being a Tar Heel. That has to count for something.
