2024 Week Two 12-team College Football Playoff rankings prediction
Week two of the college football season is officially in the books!
There was certainly some chaos over the weekend with some "upsets" occurring on the national level. One major upset stole the spotlight (which we'll discuss in a few!), but there were also a few top-tier teams that were tested over the last few days.
Last week, we released our initial 12-team College Football Playoff predictions, and it's a trend we will continue throughout the season. Don't worry: we guarantee that the projects will change (likely a lot!) throughout the remainder of the 2024 season!
After watching the action over the weekend, here's our Week 2 12-Team College Football Playoff predictions.
Just a side note: you won't see a team from Raleigh anywhere near this list!
Rank | Team | Why are they here | Previous Rank |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Georgia Bulldogs | SEC Champion | 1 |
2 | Miami Hurricanes | ACC Champion | 2 |
3 | Ohio State Buckeyes | Big Ten Champion | 3 |
4 | Utah Utes | Big 12 Champion | 4 |
5 | Texas Longhorns | At-Large | 5 |
6 | Alabama Crimson Tide | At-Large | 6 |
7 | Tennessee Volunteers | At-Large | 9 |
8 | Ole Miss | At-Large | 10 |
9 | Oregon Ducks | At-Large | 7 |
10 | Missouri Tigers | At-Large | Not Ranked |
11 | Oklahoma State | At-Large | 11 |
12 | UNLV Rebels | MW Champion | 12 |
Essentially, my top six teams from last week remainded the same. Each program won and didn't give me any reason to make any changes.
The major changes occur from seven on, as one team dropped out of the rankings.
Tennessee, following a massive blowout over NC State (a game that I enjoyed watching), and Ole Miss, who blew away Middle Tennessee, both jumped two spots. Missouri jumped into this week's rankings, making it three SEC teams with the biggest jumps.
The biggest losers of the week were Oregon and Notre Dame.
Oregon was certainly tested by Boise State, as I felt that the Ducks needed to slide down a few spots in this week's rankings. The Fighting Irish were the biggest embarassment of the weekend, scoring just 14 points in a home loss to Northern Illinois.
Imagine paying a school $1.4 MILLION to come to your home to beat you?!
There are a few teams that I'm keeping my eye on as potential teams to jump into the equation at some point, but at this point, I like the 12 teams in the mix. If you're looking for the top 12 overall teams, it's hard to argue against this group (at least in my opinion), but hey, it 100% won't look the same when it's all said and done!
