Remember when Paul Finebaum was debating running for the U.S. Senate in Alabama?
Unfortunately, he decided not to, which was a horrible decision for sports fans who have to continue listening to him on national television.
The grumpy old man is taking his grumpiness out on Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels, blasting Belichick for how things have gone in Chapel Hill since his arrival.
Paul Finebaum takes an unnecessary cheap shot at Bill Belichick
On ESPN's 'Get Up,' here's what Finebaum had to say about Belichick:
What’s at stake for Bill Belichick this year?

“Ending like he is going to end is really embarrassing and sad and, in many ways, pathetic. This didn’t have to happen. He only took this job because he was bitter he couldn’t get an NFL job. He chose the wrong place…he should seriously consider retirement.”
There's a lot to dissect here.
Sure, last season was simply abysmal for the UNC football program, but think of the circumstances that Belichick and his staff had to deal with. Already behind on the recruiting trail, Belichick had to piece together a roster with the remnants of what remained in the transfer portal, as the Tar Heels didn't have a starting quarterback until after the spring transfer portal window opened.
While Belichick is one of the greatest coaches ever to coach the sport at any level, this task of piecing together a roster and having it fire on all cylinders in a very short amount of time is impossible even for him.
Now to address Finebaum's comment about Belichick being bitter. As a six-time Super Bowl-winning head coach, Belichick has every right to be frustrated that he didn't land another opportunity in the NFL. The resume speaks for itself.
Hey, Paul. Did you ever consider that maybe, just maybe, Belichick took the job at UNC because he simply loves the sport of football and still has that burning passion to make an impact on the game, regardless of the level?
In regard to the "he chose the wrong place" comment, how was North Carolina a bad landing spot? Did you miss the financial resources that have been poured into the program, one that the university has been craving to turn into a winner for many years now? Think of the head coaching openings that were available, which one would you think would've been better for Belichick?
Quite frankly, I can't think of one.
Bill Belichick refusing to tip his UNC QB hand leaves everyone guessing for Week 1
To wrap it all up: Finebaum believes that Belichick should "seriously consider retirement." Who are you to judge someone for doing something they love, regardless of their age or how long they've been doing it? Football is all Belichick knows, why does it matter to you (or anyone else, for that matter) what he decides to do with his life and his coaching career?
Would you like it if sports fans who had to listen to your grumpy self told you to seriously consider retiring? Let's face it: you are 70-years-old, and your takes are really brutal at this point.
Too bad you didn't pursue that career in politics, because that would've saved us the trouble of having to listen to you negatively critique everyone you come in contact with on a daily basis.
