Paul Finebaum believes Bill Belichick would be a "home run hire" for North Carolina
The UNC football program made major headlines on Thursday when it was revealed that they interviewed six-time Super Bowl champion coach Bill Belichick for their head coaching vacancy.
As expected, there are mixed reviews about North Carolina's interest in Belichick, given his age and lack of college coaching experience (especially in the new world of NIL and the transfer portal).
While some aren't sold on the idea of giving the job to another older coach, ESPN College Football Analyst Paul Finebaum believes that Belichick would be a "home run hire."
"I could (see him coaching in college next year). Chapel Hill is a very unique situation: the expectations aren't the same as Georgia, Texas, and Alabama, they have a great infrastructure. If they are patient, I think he can turn that place around.
Mack Brown almost got over the hump, but just quite couldn't. Bill Belichick could easily do that.
College football is very much like the NFL. The General Manager manages all the player personnel, the salaries, and the NIL. So Bill could be the coach and he can also make sure the infrastructure is set.
I think it would be a home-run hire for North Carolina or anyone, quite frankly, in this part of the country."
The way that Finebaum presents the case for North Carolina to hire Bill Belichick is interesting, given that college football now has plenty of similarities to the NFL. Belichick seems very interested in returning to the sidelines, as he could venture into the college football world to make that happen.
Is North Carolina a perfect match? Based on Finebaum's thoughts, the Tar Heels would be making a wise investment to bring Belichick to Chapel Hill.
