UNC football interviewed a Super Bowl winning coach for head coaching vacancy
If you've been following us throughout the UNC football program's head coaching search, you likely saw our article detailing three head coaches the Tar Heels should stay far away from.
Technically, we mentioned four, as we provided insight as to why Bill Belichick wasn't included:
"For those of you who will say, "Why isn't someone like Bill Belichick not on this list?!" it's presumed that North Carolina is smart enough not to hire an older coach who has never coached at the college ranks.
At least we hope that's the case..."
Well... seems like North Carolina doesn't see it like we do...
Inside Carolina has confirmed that Belichick interviewed for the UNC football program's head coaching job. The six-time Super Bowl champion head coach was one of the few names mentioned to have been confirmed to have already been interviewed, including Tulane head coach Jon Sumrall and Georgia defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann.
No. Just simply, NO!
While it doesn't mean he's a shoe-in for the job, hiring another coach who is in the latter stages of his career doesn't make sense. That doesn't even focus on the fact that Belichick has no collegiate coaching experience under his belt and has never had to handle the new world of college athletics (such as NIL and the transfer portal).
To me, the pairing makes no sense.
Now, I get that Bubba Cunningham and the committee are doing their due diligence to find the right candidate. However, I simply don't understand how Belichick would factor in, as UNC football fans better hope that his interview doesn't lead to more serious discussions between the two sides.
