On Thursday, Agumadu, a transfer linebacker from Oklahoma State, announced his commitment to Bill Belichick and the UNC football program. He will arrive in Chapel Hill with four seasons of college eligibility remaining.
A former three-star prospect, Agumadu spent his freshman season at Oklahoma State, earning limited playing time. He saw the field a bit over the team's final four games of the regular season but was still able to redshirt as he was still below the playing time threshold to qualify for it.
As discussed in our article detailing his official visit, Agumadu has a fascinating football journey. He played on the offensive side of the football until his junior season at McKinney High School before transitioning to the linebacker position. This was an outstanding decision, as Agumadu was an absolute beast defensively over his final two seasons at the high school level.
Agumadu emerged as a Division I-caliber linebacker, earning interest from a variety of programs. While he struggled to find playing time in his lone season at Oklahoma State, Agumadu still has a ton of untapped potential left in the tank, as it is now North Carolina's quest to help him continue to develop at a position that he still is learning how to play.
If anyone can get the best out of him, it would be the Belichick's, a family with a very impressive track record of producing top-flight defensive units. Agumadu can help the Tar Heels replenish some of the depth they've lost at the linebacker position from last year's squad, as this new-look unit may not be the most experienced but has a lot of potential that the UNC football program hopes to tap into.
