North Carolina suspends Keeyun Chapman indefinitely following arrest

As part of a busy Thursday morning in Chapel Hill, news on freshman wide receiver Keeyun Chapman's status with the team has been revealed.

Chapman, a former four-star recruit, was arrested earlier this week for a misdemeanor gun charge of carrying a concealed weapon. He was one of four Tar Heels in the car at the time of the motor vehicle stop, as fellow freshman wide receiver CJ Sadler was charged with driving 60 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Shortly after the news was revealed, both Chapman and Sadler were listed as "out" on UNC's initial ACC availability report ahead of Saturday's contest against Clemson.

Now, Chapman is set to be away from the team for an indefinite amount of time.

UNC announces that Keeyun Chapman has been suspended indefinitely

In an official statement from the University of North Carolina, one that concluded the investigation surrounding the football program, it was stated that defensive coordinator Steve Belichick has resigned amid his ongoing medical leave.

The press release also states separately that Chapman has been suspended indefinitely as a result of the incident that occurred on Tuesday night in Chapel Hill.

“Carolina Football has suspended Keeyun Chapman from the team indefinitely in connection with an incident Tuesday night,” the school said in a statement. “Chapman’s suspension, like the actions resulting from the investigation, reflect the University’s commitment to accountability and the well-being of its student athletes.”

Chapman, one of UNC's top-ranked recruits in this year's class, has not seen the field yet this season. It remains to be seen how long his suspension will last and whether it will impact him from returning to the UNC football program altogether.
