One of the hot topics he discussed was recruiting, putting the world on notice regarding how UNC will operate under his watch.

Michael Malone's recruiting mindset is perfect for North Carolina

When asked by Rothstein about his mentality in regards to recruiting, Malone provided an answer that will certainly capture the attention of Tar Heel faithful:

“My whole mindset is: This is North Carolina," Malone said. "We are going to get the best players in the country. We are not going to settle. We are not going to take a backseat to anybody. We are going to go out and get the best player. If we feel like we can get a high school player who can come in here and make an impact right away, we are going to get that player. That is my mindset.”

MUSIC TO OUR EARS!

UNC expected to get a visit from intriguing recruit with serious NFL bloodlines

Sure, UNC has recruited elite talent in the past, but they haven't been heavy players for the top high school talents for quite some time. The Tar Heels haven't secured a commitment from a No. 1 ranked prospect since 2010 (Harrison Barnes), as the hope is that the streak will come to an end during the Malone era.

If it's up to him, landing one top recruit won't be enough.

Malone has grand visions of bringing the UNC basketball program back to the level that many expect them to be at, showcasing the rich Blue Blood history and dominance that the program has enjoyed in the past. Hanging banners, bringing in elite talent and consistently winning at a high level are all areas that you can tell Malone is focused on, and he, along with his strategically crafted staff, will do everything they can to ensure that they can secure the talent they seek on the recruiting trail.

Let this be known: Michael Malone has no intention of taking a back seat to anyone when it comes to recruiting. He is officially letting it be known that the Tar Heels will not only heavily recruit the top available players but will get those guys they covet to help shape the future in Chapel Hill.

If you haven't listened to Rothstein's interview with Malone, make sure you check it out. There's no doubt you'll be fired up after listening to what the new head coach of the Tar Heels has to say.
