Michael Malone and UNC will get their shot to impress five-star guard Brady Pettigrew

North Carolina is one of the many schools making a push for five-star prospect Brady Pettigrew, and rightly so.

Pettigrew put together an incredible summer, putting him among the fastest-rising prospects at the high school level, regardless of graduating class.

After receiving an offer from UNC on July 22, Pettigrew wasted no time scheduling an official visit to Chapel Hill, as the date of his trip to campus has been revealed.

Five-star Brady Pettigrew schedules an official visit to UNC this fall

According to Sam Kayser of League Ready, Pettigrew has added two official visits to his upcoming schedule. After previously lining up visits to Illinois, Michigan, Arkansas, Florida, and Ohio State, Pettigrew has added stops at North Carolina and Kentucky in October.

Pettigrew will be in Chapel Hill on the weekend of October 9. While he won't get the gameday experience before a UNC football game (with the Tar Heels visiting Pittsburgh that weekend), he will likely be on-hand when this year's UNC basketball squad takes on USC in Greensboro for a preseason exhibition contest.

The rising junior has impressed on the EYBL circuit with Brad Beal Elite. Pettigrew, a 6-foot-3, 170-pounder from Lisle, Illinois, saved his best summer moments for Peach Jam, the biggest stage that AAU basketball has to offer, showcasing his elite skill set and clutch genes while competing in front of coaches from all across the country. It wasn't an accident that he was named the first-ever EYBL 16U MVP, a testament to just how good he was throughout the summer.

If you want a good understanding of what Pettigrew brings to the table, just hear what his high school coach, Rob Brost, had to say about his star point guard:

"What sets him apart is his work ethic; that's his No. 1 thing. Obviously he's an elite athlete but he works tremendously hard individually and at practice as well. Those are things that set him apart from the normal really good player. When  you have a player of that caliber and he has the work ethic to follow, it's a recipe for a really elite player."

Could UNC have the final say in five-star big man Darius Wabbington's recruitment?

Michael Malone and the Tar Heels have been big-game hunting on the recruiting trail. It feels like UNC is heavily involved in nearly every recruitment for the top-tier players available, not shying away one bit from trying to bring a few of these talents to Chapel Hill in the near future.

Before it's all said and done, Pettigrew has made major waves in the recruiting rankings. It wouldn't surprise anyone to see him become a top-10 (and potentially top-five) rated prospect in his graduating class, given the trajectory of where his development is currently taking him.

Landing a guy like Pettigrew would be a major boost for the UNC basketball program, especially for a new-look staff that is trying to make major noise on the recruiting trail with the upcoming classes, especially the 2027 and 2028 groups.
