The fact that Max Johnson is still even playing college football is beyond insane to think about.

Now, heading into his seventh collegiate season, Johnson is set to be the starting quarterback for a fourth different school.
Max Johnson named QB1 at Georgia Southern
After transferring from North Carolina to Georgia Southern this offseason, the veteran signal-caller has been named the starter for his team's season opener against Charleston Southern. Once he takes the field to start the 2026 season, it will mark the fourth program he has served as the starting quarterback for, including his stint at UNC.

Johnson's time at North Carolina got off to an absolutely brutal start. In his Tar Heel debut, the 2024 season opener against Minnesota, Johnson suffered a gruesome leg injury, one that nearly forced him to have his leg amputated, bringing his season to an abrupt end.
While many felt his football career was over, especially after he underwent five different surgeries, Johnson wasn't ready to give up that easily. He rehabbed and found his way back onto the field, seeing game action in four contests during the 2025 campaign.
In his limited action, Johnson completed 54 of 82 passing attempts for 432 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He served as part of UNC's shuffle at the quarterback spot, one where Bill Belichick and the Tar Heels simply were looking for someone to be consistent leading the offensive attack.
Johnson was able to appeal for one more season of eligibilty and was granted one, putting him in the spot he's in now.
Of course, everyone wishes Johnson well and hopes he has a healthy and successful 2026 campaign. However, it's still mind-boggling how this guy was in the 2019 recruiting class and still is involved in the college game at the age of 25.
Here we all thought that these Class of 2022 student-athletes who were vying for another season of eligibility were crazy!
