Matt Able made it official: he is returning to college to play for Michael Malone and the UNC basketball program.

One of the biggest question marks at this point in the offseason is finally resolved, as one of Malone's top transfer additions is going to make his way to campus. While the possibility of staying in the 2026 NBA Draft was enticing to Able, he decided that it was in his best interest to play another season of college basketball.

So, what went into Able's decision to return to the college ranks? The future Tar Heel gave a great explaination that fans are going to love to hear.

Matt Able speaks about his decision to withdraw from the NBA Draft

In a statement to Marc J. Spears, Able had this to say about his decision:

“Over the weekend, I spent time with my family, my representation, and those closest to me. I’ve decided to withdraw my name from the 2026 NBA Draft and continue my development at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,” Able said. “Grateful for the feedback I received throughout this process and excited to be a part of the Tar Heel family.”

Based on how he took this decision essentially down to the wire, you can see that Able, and his support system, really took the time to decide what's best for his future. In the end, it circled back to Chapel Hill, where Able will now continue his college career in hopes of helping improve his future NBA Draft stock when the right time comes for him to make that jump to the pros.

Tar Heel fans are pumped to officially have Matt Able joining the program, as he was a highly sought after transfer prospect who has the ability to put together a breakthrough sophomore season. He is sure to be a major piece to the puzzle for Malone's first team at North Carolina, as it wouldn't shock anyone to see him be one of the best players in the ACC during the 2026-2027 season.

Now trading in his former red uniform for an upgraded Carolina Blue one, Matt Able is already growing as a fan favorite in Chapel Hill, and he hasn't even arrived on campus yet!
