Tar Heel fans know just how good a hitter Luke Stevenson is. Stevenson starred at North Carolina before taking his talents to the pros, being selected by the Seattle Mariners in the Competitive Balance Round A (35th overall pick) in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Competing for the Everett AquaSox, the Mariners High-A affiliate, Stevenson has been on an absolute tear at the plate. His efforts for the month of July were rewarded with a personal accolade, one that shows just how outstanding he was during the latest calendar month.

As announced by Major League Baseball, Luke Stevenson has been named the Northwest League Player of the Month for July.

During the month of July, Stevenson batted .338/.433/.753 and led the league in multiple categories, including home runs (eight), doubles (eight), RBI (26), total bases (58), slugging percentage (.753) and OPS (1.186). He was third in average (.338) and was fourth in runs scored (18).
Stevenson produced eight multi-hit games and posted his first multi-homer game on July 28, stringing together separate hitting streaks of seven and nine games.
Basically, Stevenson made it extremely difficult for opposing pitchers to get him out.

Now in his first full season in the pros, Stevenson is proving why the Mariners selected him so high in the draft. It's not easy to find a catcher who can hit at an elite level and also stick it behind the plate, as Stevenson continues to prove that he can do both at a very high level.
Of course, the Mariners aren't rushing his development, given that he just surpassed the 100-games-played mark in the pros. He is also still very young (having just turned 22 a few weeks ago), so there's still a bit of seasoning that needs to occur before he works his way up to the big leagues.
However, if he continues to hit at this pace, you could expect that a call-up to Double-A could be coming for the former Tar Heel star.

Stevenson is one of those guys who just screams future big-league catcher when you watch him compete. Not only did he continue developing in every aspect during his time in Chapel Hill, but he is still working tremendously hard to improve his game, with his quest to make it to the big leagues coming closer by the day.
When you draft a player in the early rounds of the MLB Draft, you expect they will be part of your big-league club sooner rather than later. For Stevenson, he is making the most of every opportunity he gets, as the numbers will tell you just how good he's been.
