Former Tar Heel Owen Hull crushes his first home run of his professional career

Owen Hull has wasted no time getting going offensively to start his professional baseball career.

The former Tar Heel put together an outstanding pro debut weekend for the Greenville Drive, recording five hits over his first 10 at-bats. He had two doubles and drove in four RBIs, giving Red Sox fans an early glimpse of what he could potentially do for the big league club in the future.

Hull wasn't satisfied with one good weekend at the plate. The former Diamond Heels star continued his offensive tear on Tuesday, accomplishing a first in his professional baseball career.

In the bottom of the third inning, Hull stepped up to the plate with runners in scoring position.

Tar Heel fans know how good Hull is at driving in runs, so to hear he got the job done won't surprise anyone. However, the way he accomplished that goal will raise some eyebrows, as you'll want to see the big swing Hull connected on to put the baseball into the seats.

Hull sent a drive to the deepest part of the ballpark, one that just cleared the 420 foot sign in center field, marking the first home run of his professional baseball career.

Known more for his ability to put the ball in play, Hull did showcase some power during his lone season in Chapel Hill. He slugged 9 homers in 262 at-bats as a Tar Heel, giving a little taste of his ability to hit for power, but it always felt like there was a lot more power in the tank for Hull.

Well, that one swing of the bat proved that theory to be right!

Hull is one of those guys who you wish would've been around Chapel Hill for more than one season. He quickly made a huge impact on the Diamond Heels, becoming a key contributor on the team's run to the College World Series Championship series.

His success at the collegiate level, especially at North Carolina, led to his draft stock rising rapidly, putting him in this position to chase his dreams of playing in the big leagues.

Based on the early sample size, Hull is off to a tremendous start in that process. If he's able to continue hitting at the level he's currently showcasing, there's no doubt that he will quickly rise through the Red Sox minor league system, eventually earning his call-up to the big leagues.
