Luka Bogavac's career night couldn't have come at a better time for UNC

The junior showcased the sharpshooting skills we heard so much about since he first arrived in Chapel Hill.

The Tar Heels were in desperate need of a spark on Tuesday night.

Battling in a back-and-forth affair with Clemson, North Carolina needed someone to step up offensively to help them pull away. While the night was focused on the senior members of the program, it was a junior who put together a career-night that made the difference in the game.

Luka Bogavac comes up clutch

Since Caleb Wilson has been sidelined, the Tar Heels have had multiple players step up to fill the void.

Jarin Stevenson, Zayden High and Jonathan Powell have taken turns being the guy to contribute when the Tar Heels needed it. On Tuesday night, it was Luka Bogavac's turn.

The international standout came to Chapel Hill with a reputation of being a sharpshooter. While we've seen flashes of out throughout his first season as a Tar Heel, we've all been waiting for that moment where he goes on an absolute heater offensively.

In the second half against Clemson, Bogavac did just that.

Not one... not two... not three...

Bogavac led UNC with a season-high 20 points, topping his previous career-high of 19 that he recorded in non-conference play early in the season against Radford. It also surpassed his best scoring output in ACC play, as his previous high in conference play was 16 against Georgia Tech.

The Mojkovac, Montenegro native drained six three pointers, five of which came in the second half, as there was a stretch where it felt like Bogavac simply couldn't miss.

In case you missed any of his threes from Tuesday night, you can view them all below!

What led to Bogavac's second half hot streak?

After the game, Bogavac was asked about his second-half success, one that he credited to Hubert Davis for making happen.

"Just Coach Davis, he called up plays for me in the second half," Bogavac said. He recommended that I can get hot. And he really pushed me to shoot the ball and really, thanks to him, — I just feel the confidence from the coach, because he kept announcing the plays for me, and it was amazing for me."

Bogavac's teammates speak about his outstanding effort

We're sure that the Tar Heels have seen Bogavac shoot the lights out of the gym in practice and know what he's capable of doing in games. However, a second-half like Bogavac put together really impressed his teammates, who emphasized the importance of his ability to knock down some clutch shots.

"He's a great shooter," Henri Veesaar said. "So the way he was shooting it today, and the threes he was hitting, it gives us a huge boost at the end of the game, when we can go down and get three points every possession, when we just put the ball in his hands."

"Yeah, he was knocking it down," Jarin Stevenson added. "He was coming off screens, and we were setting good screens for him. Bigs did a good job, and Luka is just coming off ready to shoot. He did a good job doing that. I'm glad he had the confidence to go in there and just let it go, because, again, we have confidence in him and his shooting ability. And we've seen it. So, I'm proud of Luka."

Hopefully there's more to come

Bogavac has put together some strong efforts for the UNC basketball program throughout his first season with the program.

However, if Bogavac can continue shooting the basketball at the elite level he showed he's capable of, he has the potential to take this Tar Heels' squad to a whole different level. North Carolina has been looking for consistent three-point shooting essentially all season long, and Bogavac is the guy who could definitely lead that charge moving forward.
