It has been over two months since European shooting guard Luka Bogavac officially arrived in Chapel Hill to start his college basketball career with the North Carolina Tar Heels.
Except, his college basketball career didn't actually start then, and it still has yet to begin...
Despite being enrolled at UNC and committing to the Tar Heels in May (five months ago), Bogavac still has yet to be cleared by the university, even though numerous prospects from overseas have received clearance to play for other programs.
The Bogavac situation is a cluster, and North Carolina fans are truly starting to lose their patience as one of the biggest prospects in the Heels' recruiting class is still inexplicably sidelined.
Luka Bogavac on the Dean E. Smith Center court would be an even better view. 🤷‍♂️ https://t.co/6e7XrpLQtI

Why isn't Luka Bogavac playing for the UNC Tar Heels?
When a player comes from overseas, they have almost always played at the professional level and, despite the ever-changing world of NIL in college sports, must receive clearance to drop back to the amateur (college) level.
They then have to receive clearance from the university that they play for, even though they can enroll as full-time students before receiving this clearance.
While schools like Duke and Oregon have received clearances for their European and Asian recruits, Bogavac is still sitting on the bench, unable to even play in exhibition games without the go-ahead from the school.
If Luka Bogavac isn’t cleared to play by UNC in the season opener, I’m never donating a penny to the school again.

Despite Bogavac being on campus for more than two months, the Tar Heels and head coach Hubert Davis have been unable to clear him for in-game action.
Someone clear Luka Bogavac NOW @UNC_Basketball @GoHeels @JoshStein_

Bogavac's visa reportedly cleared a handful of weeks ago, so the only thing still pending is his actual eligibility to play college basketball, which is something that most programs seemingly started the process on before their recruits ever arrived on campus.

I got ninety-nine problems, but Luka Bogavac's pending eligibility is A-Number-One
So, while Bogavac has committed to the Tar Heels, has arrived in Chapel Hill, has enrolled at the University of North Carolina, has cleared the visa process, and has received clearance from the NCAA, the European star still can't suit up for UNC.
Luka Bogavac’s eligibility issue is ridiculous.

May: Signed âś…
July: Cleared admissions âś…
Aug.: Visa, starts classes âś…
Oct.: NCAA clearance âś…
Now, 12 days until season, there’s a random holdup from within #UNC.
Why didn’t UNC resolve this internal issue before admitting… https://t.co/9fVshMZjB6
It is truly a dumbfounding situation that hasn't been seen very often and certainly not for this lengthy stretch of time.
The No. 25 Tar Heels are scheduled to start their regular season on Monday, Nov. 3, against the Central Arkansas Bears before taking on the No. 19 Kansas Jayhawks just four days later. Whether Bogavac will be able to clock in for those matchups is still wildly unclear.
On Monday, North Carolina and Central Arkansas are scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. ET, and the game will be aired on the ACC Network.
