Tar Heel fans have been patiently waiting for any update on the recruitment of international big man Alexandros Samodurov.

Just a few days ago, social media started buzzing that Samodurov had officially committed to North Carolina. However, that notion was a bit premature, as we've all waited to see if any updates would emerge.

The Inside Carolina team provided an update on the situation on their latest podcast episode, one that will put Tar Heel fans back on commit watch.

Alexandros Samodurov's recruitment might be near the finish line

Here's what Sherrell McMillian had to say on the matter:

“I think you can gather from all the reporting where this is heading,” Inside Carolina’s Sherrell McMillan said. “It’s just that in this situation, we have kind of a way we do things and it requires confirmation from multiple folks and until we get that, we can’t report it. Obviously, we’re aware of everything that’s out there, and I’m not going to say that it’s not true (that he committed), because I don’t think that it’s true, but we just can’t confirm it. I would say do with that what you will, but I think that’s where things stand and it seems pretty clear where it’s headed.”

Based on what McMillian had to say, all signs point to Samodurov eventually committing to Michael Malone and the Tar Heels. However, McMillian (along with the rest of the Inside Carolina team) aren't quite ready to confirm that he committed (which was the belief a few days ago).

Now, it seems like it's going to be a matter of when (not if) the Tar Heels add another frontcourt piece to next season's roster.

The Tar Heels have been heavily pursuing Samodurov, who has emerged as their clear-cut top target at this stage in the offseason. North Carolina would love to reconnect him with Neoklis Avdalas, who joined the program as a transfer a few weeks back. The two international standouts were previously teammates and already have a strong connection that would bode well for UNC if they are back on the same roster this upcoming season.

Keep an eye on this recruitment, as it appears that North Carolina is now simply waiting for Samodurov to make his decision official, one that will add a major piece to next season's squad.
