Social media started buzzing on Thursday night when the below post regarding a potential commitment from international standout Alexandros Samodurov began to surface.

Samodurov himself fueled the fire a bit by liking the post on Instagram (which you can see below). These two factors alone are enough to make you think that this was a done deal. His connection to Neo Avdalas, one of the newest Tar Heels, also plays a major factor in this recruitment, as he might be swayed enough to have the opportunity to play alongside his former teammate once again.

However, while we are all hoping that he eventually does commit to play for Michael Malone and the Tar Heels next season, the deal is not yet finalized.

Let's clear the air on the latest

Clearing up the current Alexandros Samodurov rumors

According to sources close to the situation, the news of Samodurov committing to North Carolina is a bit premature.

Nothing (as of this post) has been finalized in regard to this potential pairing. Of course, as we all know, the world of recruiting does change rapidly at times, so it is possible that the official news is coming, but it just hasn't happened just yet.

The 6-foot-11 big man he described as a versatile big man with the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. He isn't a traditional stationary post piece, which is good given how the landscape of college basketball has changed in recent years, as it's vital for big men to stretch the floor and do more than just look for touches near the basket.

If North Carolina lands Samodurov, it would be yet another huge addition for the Tar Heels in their efforts to rebuild the roster ahead of Michael Malone's first season at the helm in Chapel Hill. Without a doubt, Samodurov seems to be the Tar Heels' top big man recruiting target at this point in time, as adding him to the mix would serve as a major boost for the team's frontcourt.

We will continue to monitor the situation and will provide any details as they emerge. Until then, it might be safe to say that North Carolina may be on the verge of adding another big man to its frontcourt unit for the upcoming season.

This story will continue to be updated as more information comes along.
