Are you kidding me?
If this is true...
Why would the University of North Carolina think it was a good idea to basically force the guy into taking over as the program's head coach?
It's not like Davis came to Chapel Hill with an extensive head coaching resume. This was a guy who left the ESPN broadcasting studio to become an assistant coach at his alma mater. It's probably likely that Davis was more than content with being an assistant, as he maybe never saw himself taking over the reigns of the program.
ESPN's bombshell Hubert Davis report hints his days at UNC are numbered
Sure, maybe Roy Williams convinced him that he was the right guy for the job, but wouldn't you want the head coach of one of the most historic programs in all of college basketball to actually want to do the job?
It was doomed from the start
If Goodman's take is correct, the Hubert Davis era was destined to fail before it even started.
This isn't an assistant coach taking over as a high school head coach. This is the University of North Carolina. If Davis was hesitant about taking the job, or quite frankly had no desire to take that leap to become the head coach of the Tar Heels, the decision-makers should've pivoted to hire someone who actually was invested into the program and actually wanted the job.
Goodman's reveal makes this situation a whole lot worse, as now there will be doubts from the fan base regarding why the University of North Carolina made such a questionable decision knowing that Davis wasn't fully sold on becoming the program's next head coach.
