Many decisions are being made by players from last year's UNC basketball team as the offseason is officially underway.
While some decisions might be easier than others, there are some Tar Heels who have to really weigh their options as this crucial offseason is officially underway.
After a breakout season, Henri Veesaar might just have the toughest decision of them all, deciding between whether to head to the NBA or to stick around the college ranks for another season.
Based on the recent information that's been out there, Veesaar's decision might just be a bit easier to make than we initially thought.
ESPN big board rankings prove Veesaar should stay at UNC
Jeremy Woo of ESPN put together his top 100 prospects list heading into the 2026 NBA Draft, as many likely scanned quickly to see where Veesaar was ranked.
Woo doesn't seem as high on Veesaar as others do, ranking him as the No. 44 overall prospect in this draft class. To put it into perspective: that's essentially a mid-second round grade for the junior big man.
Veesaar's decision will come down to whether he is considered a consensus first-round draft pick. If the feedback he receives from NBA teams comes back indicating that notion, you can all but kiss his college career goodbye, as he will definitely take that leap if he knows he'll be one of the first 30 names called in this draft class.
However, if that feedback isn't as promising as hoped (which very well could be the case), then the decision gets tougher.
Ultimately, Veesaar will need to decide if he wants to take a chance on himself by starting up his professional basketball career. If he somehow were to fall into the second round, a guaranteed NBA roster spot might not be there, relegating him to spending time in the G-League.
If he comes back to campus, not only would he earn a very nice payday, but will also have the opportunity to continue building on his career season, putting himself in an even better position to improve his draft stock as part of the 2027 class.
The latest news should be pointing Veesaar toward returning to Chapel Hill for one more season. With NIL in place, it makes sense for him to capitalize on his brand while finishing his degree in the process, especially if there's no guarantee that he'll be selected in an ideal spot if he were to declare for the NBA Draft.
