Caleb Wilson hasn't even completed his first month in the NBA, and he's already earning serious praise from one of the greatest players ever to step on a basketball court.

No, we're not talking about your typical rookie compliments.

We're talking about Dwyane Wade envisioning the former UNC basketball star as the next face of the Chicago Bulls.

Yeah, THAT Dwyane Wade.

The three-time NBA champion and Basketball Hall of Famer recently discussed Wilson on his Time Out podcast, making it clear that he believes the former Tar Heel has everything necessary to become a franchise cornerstone.

Wade didn't stop there, comparing Wilson to another legendary former NBA player.

Wade believes Caleb Wilson could be Chicago's next franchise star

Chicago has a rich basketball history.

Michael Jordan brought six championships to the city. Derrick Rose became the youngest MVP in NBA history. Jimmy Butler eventually developed into one of the league's premier players.

However, the Bulls have spent years searching for their next superstar.

Wade, who grew up in Chicago and briefly played for his hometown team, believes Wilson could eventually become that player.

On his podcast, Wade reflected on the franchise's history of star players before identifying Wilson as someone who could carry that responsibility. He pointed to Wilson's personality, competitiveness, and ability to become someone the organization can build around.

That's some pretty significant praise.

Wilson was selected fourth overall in the 2026 NBA Draft after his standout career at UNC. Through his first seven NBA games, the former Tar Heel is averaging 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.3 blocks per contest. Those are impressive numbers for anyone, let alone a 20-year-old rookie adjusting to the professional level.

But what has impressed Wade most isn't necessarily Wilson's scoring, it's his mentality.

Wade specifically praised Wilson's competitive fire, describing the young forward as someone with a "dog mentality" when he steps onto the court.

For a franchise desperately searching for its next centerpiece, that type of attitude is exactly what Wade wants to see.

Wade sees shades of Kevin Garnett in the former UNC star

As if the discussion about becoming Chicago's next franchise player wasn't enough, Wade took his praise one step further.

He compared Wilson to Kevin Garnett.

Yes, the same Kevin Garnett who became one of the most dominant and intense forwards in NBA history.

Wade explained that Wilson has a similar presence and competitive edge, citing his energy, defensive rebounding, off-ball movement, and willingness to attack.

And here's what makes that comparison especially intriguing.

Wilson is still developing.

His outside shooting remains a work in progress, and many aspects of his game will continue to improve as he gains experience. Yet he's already finding ways to impact games at a high level, as he did much of that during his lone season in Chapel Hill.

Whether it was an emphatic dunk, a timely defensive play, or an explosive move toward the basket, Wilson had a knack for making his presence felt. To no surprise, that ability has translated to the NBA, but much more quickly than some might have expected.

Of course, comparing a rookie to Garnett doesn't mean he's destined to become a Hall of Famer. However, when someone with Wade's basketball résumé recognizes similarities between the two, it's certainly worth paying attention.

The Bulls may be struggling to win games, but Wilson has already given Chicago fans something to be excited about. He is putting the league on notice, and some of the all-time greats are appreciating what he's doing early in his professional basketball career.

The scary thing is: Wilson hasn't even reached his full potential yet, a testament to how good he currently is and how elite he possibly can be in the future.
