In the current world of college athletics, a verbal commitment is just that.
The key to this is: it's subject to change.
Just over a month ago, four-star running back Amir Brown pledged his commitment to Bill Belichick and the UNC football program. While his verbal commitment has him tabbed to head to Chapel Hill, Brown's recruitment is not yet truly finalized.
The Rolesville, North Carolina native is still keeping his options open, one of which resides in South Bend, Indiana.
Excited to be in South Bend 10/18 on a game day visit vs USC!!! @NDFootball @Marcus_Freeman1 @coachseider @BGInews @irishillustratd @TomLoy247 @RRACKLEY9 pic.twitter.com/458cTBd6EE

Brown announced that he will be taking a game day visit on October 18 when the Fighting Irish host USC. This is not his first visit to Notre Dame, as he made a stop to see Marcus Freeman and the program during spring practices.
To add to this, Inside Carolina reported that Brown will not make his expected visit to North Carolina for Saturday's game against Richmond, citing that he is under the weather and will stay home to rest up.
Currently a member of the 2027 class, there's still plenty of time for Brown to change his mind about his future destination. While it seems (at the moment) that he is still committed to the UNC football program, it isn't stopping him from exploring his potential options, with Notre Dame serving as one of the more intriguing ones out there.
Ultimately, the hope is that Brown will explore all of his options and will determine that North Carolina is, in fact, the right place for him to begin his college football career.
For now, Brown needs some time to explore all of his potential options.
