Keeping in-state talent home is a priority for college football programs across the country. The UNC football program was able to do just that on Sunday afternoon, securing a commitment from Class of 2027 four-star running back Amir Brown.

Brown is a player that North Carolina identified as a recruiting target even before Bill Belichick and the new regime made their way to Chapel Hill. The prior coaching staff, led by Mack Brown, was the one to inititate the offer to Brown, while the current staff continued to make him a priority on the recruiting trail.

It definitely paid off in the end for the UNC football program.

A 5-foot-11 running back, the Rolesville High School standout collected offers from the likes of Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State. He currently ranks as the No. 22 overall running back in the Class of 2027, according to 247Sports.

While his sophomore season numbers might not jump off the page (93 carries for 612 yards and 11 touchdowns), it's important to note that he was splitting reps with a senior running back ahead of him on the depth chart. Heading into his junior season, it will be very interesting to see what Brown, who averaged 6.6 yards per carry as a sophomore, can do with an increased workload.

Brown becomes the second player from the Class of 2027 to commit to Belichick and the UNC football program. The early success with recruiting the 2027 class is building off what the Tar Heels have done with the 2026 group, as 35 rising seniors are committed to head to Chapel Hill to begin their collegiate careers next fall.

The UNC football program is absolutely putting in the work on the recruiting trail, continuing to prove the doubters wrong. What makes it scary is this: the Tar Heels are far from done on the recruiting trail.
