When you look back at the Hubert Davis era in Chapel Hill, it's nearly impossible to not tie Mike Krzyzewski to that time period.
The former Duke Blue Devils head coach put together a legendary career, one that saw Davis' Tar Heels not only hand him a loss in his final home game at Cameron Indoor Stadium, but also one in the Final Four that ended his coaching career as a whole.
Bruce Pearl slamming UNC for firing Hubert Davis may be the worst take yet
Of course, one of the major storylines in college basketball has been the firing of Davis as the head coach of the Tar Heels. It was only a matter of time before a media member was able to ask Coach K his thoughts, as Pat McAfee wasted no time asking the question everyone wanted to hear his take on.
Coach K discusses his relationship with Hubert Davis
As a guest on The Pat McAfee Show, Coach K talked about his relationship with Davis as well as the head coaching vacancy in Chapel Hill.
When McAfee suggested Coach K might be in the running for the job, he quickly refused to entertain the idea, jokingly saying that Tar Heel fans wouldn't want him to coach their team.

In regard to his relationship, Krzyzewski mentioned how he and Davis are actually good friends.
"Hubert Davis is a good friend. Actually, his wife, Leslie, her father, who passed away in the last year, was one of my teammates at West Point. And so I think Hubert's one of the great guys. I, yeah, I'm sad that happened. I think every coach in the country has sympathy for him."
UNC's latest coaching staff departure is even tougher to swallow
Krzyzewski understands how the business works, but also realizes that this year's squad was drastically impacted when Caleb Wilson went down with a season-ending injury.
"You lose a player of the caliber of Caleb Wilson, he's a top-five pick in the NBA Draft," Krzyzewski said. "You don't have him for the last few weeks of the season. That's a big thing. That's a huge thing. But, they can do what they wanna do. I just have a lot of empathy for Hubert and a lot of respect for him."
UNC's head coaching opening is a massive deal
After reflecting on his empathy and respect for Davis, Krzyzewski made it clear that this opening is a big-time deal, given the history built in Chapel Hill.
"It's one of the great programs of all time in any sport," Krzyzewski added. "I'm sure they will get a coach who is worthy of that position. It's one of the big-time positions in sport."
