Even before Hubert Davis was fired by the University of North Carolina, rumors were circling regarding who might be the next in line for one of the most coveted jobs in all of college basketball.
At the time, we asked ChatGPT to weigh in on who should be the next coach of the UNC basketball program, and the response was one that seemed to make a lot of sense at the time.
However, just like all of us, opinions can certainly change.
With that in mind, we decided to ask ChatGPT for some input to see if the AI chatbot has changed its tune.
In just a few weeks, the generated list is totally different than what we previously saw, but fans will still love the updated list, one that features mostly new names on it.
"The Best Choice"
After Alabama's Nate Oats held down this spot on the previous list, ChatGPT has now shifted gears to focus on Arizona's Tommy Lloyd.
ChatGPT is literally like all of us!
Lloyd has been the topic of discussion as the Final Four approaches, given all the rumors surrounding his connection to the UNC gig. While Lloyd has tried to silence the rumors as much as possible, it's still hanging over the Wildcats heads as they are set to compete for a spot in the national championship game on Saturday night.
A proven winner and an elite coach, Lloyd would be a home run hire for UNC as they aim to get back to their elite program status.
"Strong Alternative"
Mark Byington of Vanderbilt was named the "safest smart hire" on the previous list, but he was replaced by Billy Donovan on the updated one.
Donovan is classified as the "strong alternative" hire. A two-time national champion, Donovan has been away from the college game for over a decade, but there's no doubt that the guy can win games. If Lloyd isn't the guy, Donovan wouldn't be a horrible hire by any means, as he's someone who has the track record to lure in top-tier talent who aspire to not only compete for national championships but to also find their way to the NBA once their college career comes to a close.
"Rising Modern Pick"
Instead of "keeping it in the family," as the last article suggested Marcus Paige for that title, ChatGPT added a "rising modern pick" and tabbed Dusty May of Michigan as that guy.
May and Lloyd will square off in the Final Four on Saturday night, and it's very possible that the loser of that game will be on the phone with North Carolina representatives shortly after. While May might not want to leave Ann Arbor (unless it's to head to the NBA), the UNC job might be one that at least earns May's attention as he weighs out his future options.
