Not long after Michael Malone first took over at North Carolina, the Tar Heels were able to reel in a head-turning pledge from Virginia Tech transfer Neoklis Avdalas. Since then, the roster is starting to fill out and Malone has posted some big-time wins. Well, things have been made official with the versatile playmaker, as he signed to continue his college career in Chapel Hill.
Henri Veesaar's UNC exit raising more eyebrows with his Hubert Davis quote
This is great news for several reasons, including Avdalas being excited to make a difference in Malone's first year. On a lighthearted note, Caleb Wilson himself is excited to see Neo make plays at the Dean Dome, but he didn't love the highlight video UNC put together for him? Wait, what?
Yup, in pretty darn funny fashion, Wilson called out the fact that the very first play that was showcased in the Avdalas signing clip was him knocking down a shot against Carolina, with Henri Veesaar all over him. Wilson replied to the video, saying, 'why they put the first clip' with three peace sign emojis. Hey, maybe it was just a coincidence?
Neoklis Avdalas is ready to make an instant impact for North Carolina and Michael Malone
While that was a pretty funny response from Wilson, the main focus here is that Avdalas is signed, sealed and delivered for Malone and his staff. The 4-star transfer is coming off a strong year for the Hokies, as he averaged 12.1 points, 4.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game. Could an off-court assist be coming thanks to Avdalas as well?
In recent days, there's been plenty of talk among the UNC fanbase when it comes to 6-11 big man Alexandros Samodurov. Him and Avdalas are close friends from their playing days together back in Greece. The two have reportedly talked about playing together once again, with plenty of signs pointing to UNC reeling in his commitment.
In case you missed it, Inside Carolina's Sherrell McMillan just reported that UNC is working hard on this and while things aren't over the line just yet, things continue to move in the right direction. At this point, it's starting to feel like it might end up being a bit of a shocker if Samodurov and Avdalas aren't reunited next season in the ACC.
For now, we've got to keep playing the waiting game to see if he signs or not. We don't have to worry about that with Avdalas, as he's fired up to be a Heel. As for Wilson, he'll keep rooting on UNC and following them closely despite him saying goodbye to town to get ready for the NBA Draft. Wilson feels like a lock to be a Top 5 pick, with plenty of links to the Chicago Bulls coming in.
