Caleb Wilson has the stage to be UNC's best NBA player in well over a generation

Wilson can finally bring to an end an abysmal UNC All-Star drought.

The excitement over UNC standout Caleb Wilson going No. 4 overall to the Chicago Bulls won't be going anywhere in the near future. As much as everyone in Chicago is fired up over the draft move, the North Carolina faithful are equally as excited, as Wilson has made it more than clear he's going to keep representing Tar Heel blue the best way he can.

UNC and NC State schedule update rights a wrong that should have never come in

One way he could do that and then some next season would be by making the All-Star Game. Wilson has all the tools to make that happen, and in turn it would wipe away nearly 30 years of ASG misery for Carolina. The last All-Star the Tar Heels produced was Vince Carter, who suited up in Chapel Hill during the 1997-98 season to close out his incredible college career. That fact simply must change soon, with Wilson ready to do so:

Caleb Wilson could end UNC's NBA All-Star Game drought as early as next season

We don't have to tell you that UNC haters have been out in full force to rag on the program for not producing an All-Star in so long. Carter remains a fan favorite, and he was without question a total star in the league. Since him, however, Carolina products haven't gone on to have the kind of success in the pros that a lot of us have been hoping for.

That's where Wilson can step in and change the narrative. The fact that Wilson was taken in the Top 5 speaks volumes to his potential at the next level. Add in the fact that he averaged nearly 20 points per game as a 5-star freshman last season for Hubert Davis, and we all know what this kid can do on the hardwood. It's going to be all about him putting things together.

He'll have quite the opportunity to do that in Chicago, as the Bulls are in a rebuild and in desperate need of someone to step in and be a stud playmaker for the next decade. That's where Wilson can come in and deliver for the front office. No one can argue with the fact that he has the talent needed to be a superstar at the next level.

He can shoot the ball, attack the glass, play stout defense, and more. There are of course going to be some growing pains for him in Year 1 with the Bulls, but it's all going to be worth it should he elevate his game to the level we're expecting him to. And if he does, a trip to the All-Star Game in Phoenix very well could be in the cards.

UNC supporters of course will have a ton of focus on how Michael Malone does in his debut campaign, but plenty of eyes will be following Wilson's rookie season. The former Carolina standout himself has said he's got a Rookie of the Year honor on his mind, and that's something that could be well within his grasp as well.
