We know you've probably read us say it before, but what Caleb Wilson has meant to UNC really can't be measured. On top of being such a stud playmaker, Wilson fully embraced the Chapel Hill community as a whole and he has made it clear he's always going to cherish his time on campus.

Michael Malone and UNC may not be done on the high school recruiting trail

This included him making his way to the student gym to put on a show against some of his fellow classmates not long ago. Why was it so important for Wilson, who had his season cut short due to injury, to lace up his sneaks and play some ball with fellow youngsters? Because he knew how much it would mean to everyone:

Caleb Wilson will always cherish his time with UNC despite leaving early

"I mean, I love to play basketball and you know, I really wanted to incorporate the students," Wilson said. "I feel like it's a big part of basketball, you know, just making sure everyone feels involved, especially at UNC. I knew I was about to leave, so I just wanted to leave a mark that would kind of last on the community forever."

It's safe to say he's done just that. The videos of Wilson throwing down monster jams on fellow students went viral and understandably so. This awesome pickup game went down right before the 5-star freshman packed his bags and left town for good.

So, he did so wanting to make sure everyone had a memory they could tell their grandkids about? You bet. On top of that, Wilson was so dang special for Carolina during his freshman season, those same people will also tell their grandkids that they once saw him showcase his electric abilities at the Dean Dome.

This past campaign, the 6-10, 215-pounder averaged 19.8 points and 9.8 rebounds per game, making history during his time on the hardwood. Wilson's accolades included passing Tyler Hansbrough for the most 20-point games as a UNC freshman - yup, just awesome.

As great as Wilson was, a broken bone in his hand and then a broken thumb robbed everyone of being able to watch him in the NCAA Tournament. Said thumb injury also proved to be back-breaking for Carolina, as a first-round loss to VCU was posted.

Wilson was down in the dumps over that season-ending injury, which required surgery. Despite that, the Atlanta native left his mark on the program and now his focus is on hearing his name called early in the 2026 NBA Draft. Wilson feels like a lock to be a Top 5 pick, while the door has swung open for the Jazz to potentially give him a look at No. 2 overall too.

Regardless of where he ends up, it's safe to say that a lot of Tar Heels fans are going to buy his first NBA jersey once it's available for purchase. Wilson indeed has meant so much to North Carolina and that's not going to change soon. And whenever he wants to come home to visit, he'll be welcomed back with open arms.
