Stop us if you've heard this before, but Caleb Wilson has been putting on a show for North Carolina. The freshman is living up to the hype, as he's averaging more than 20 points a game. He's no question looking like a 5-star playmaker thus far with the ball in his hands.
Caleb Wilson calling himself and UNC basketball out is what the Heels needed
However, it's not just amazing dunks and plays on offense that has led to him having so much early success. On the defensive side of things, Wilson has been playing with a ton of passion and tenacity. It's something people have definitely noticed. So, what's going through his mind when he's on that end of the floor:

Caleb Wilson is living up to the 5-star hype for UNC basketball right now
"With defense, what I try to do is think what the offensive player is thinking," Wilson said. "If my player catches the ball who I'm guarding, I always take a quick glance behind me so I can see what he's seeing. Like, what's the gap he feels like he can attack? If I catch the ball at the top of the key or in the slot, I'm always thinking middle drive because that's usually where the spacing is. If I see my man catch the ball, or before he catches it or while he's catching it, I'm going to take a quick glance back and see what's behind me so I know what I can do to stop him from getting where he wants to go."
How is this kid just a freshman? Wilson is not only playing beyond his years, but he's acting beyond them as well. He makes it seem like he takes just as much pride on defense as he does on offense, which is obviously great to see for Hubert Davis and his staff.
Through four games, Wilson has been everything Tar Heels fans wanted him to be and more. There's still some time before ACC play gets underway and things are going to get much more difficult for UNC, but the new faces on campus have people believing it will be a season to remember.
People can't wait for the Thanksgiving Day showdown with Michigan State to get here, as it's going to be a highly-entertaining battle. Countless eyes will be on Wilson to keep producing at a high level, but don't be surprised when you see him recording some head-turning defense vs. the Spartans as well. It's exactly what he wants people to notice about his game moving forward.
