You just had a feeling some big news was going to be on the way for UNC and Bill Belichick. That's because the decision day arrived for touted offensive lineman Shavezz Dixon, with him deciding between a list of five finalists. Was Bill Belichick going to take a backseat to anyone? Not a chance, as Dixon just announced his commitment to the ACC side.

UNC surging for 320-pound lineman who's suddenly on commit watch

Checking in at 6-4, 325 pounds, Dixon has incredible size for a high school junior who still has his senior campaign on the way. Dixon was in Chapel Hill for a recent unofficial visit and it opened his eyes to why he had to make a pretty simple call in committing to UNC. Belichick of course played a big role in his final decision:

With Dixon being a 325-pound junior, we've got to ask what in the world they put in the water over there in Leesburg, Ga.? We kid, but the Lee County High School standout indeed has a pretty intimidating presence, which he'll of course be ready to bring with him to Carolina once he finishes up high school first.

This also wasn't easy for Belichick to get things done, as the new UNC pledge was also giving Virginia, Pitt, Georgia Tech and Florida State a serious look. However, the youngster who also goes by 'SteamRoll' knew in his heart that North Carolina was the right fit for him.

And who better to help take his game to the next level than Belichick, inarguably one of the best football coaches of all time. Sure, the Tar Heels going 4-8 in 2025 didn't come close to living up to the hype that was surrounding the program, but the hope is that things can keep improving over the next few years.

Dixon is going to have to wait until the 2027 season at the earlier to be an impact player, but you already know he'll be following Carolina pretty dang closely once Week 1 gets here. Once the Early Signing Period gets here too, the Peach State product will be ready to make things official with Belichick as well.

With Lee now on board, UNC is up to seven pledges for the 2027 haul. He's joined by safety Charles Roberts, cornerback Trey Johnson, linebacker Tasheem Butler, running back Isaiah Stephens, athlete Skylar Robinson and lineman Lauifi Tosi.

There may be more good news on the way for the Tar Heels. There are 10 official visitors on campus, with Belichick ready to see that list of seven commits grow in a big way soon.

For now, Belichick and Co. can celebrate the Dixon news, as the big-bodied playmaker is pretty dang fired up after making his life-changing decision. Once he makes the move to ACC country too, he'll be ready to serve up pancake blocks left and right. That's something for everyone to look forward to.
