Some things are very clear at this point in time.

The UNC football program is a work in progress, featuring a roster that simply isn't talented enough to compete against higher-level competition.

Bill Belichick understands this more than anyone, as he's the one who helped piece this roster together, essentially behind the 8-ball. With no prior relationships on the recruiting trail and limited options to work with in the transfer portal, the UNC football program essentially filled the roster to fill the roster, putting them in a weird spot this season.

Now at 2-3 and rumors swirling about his future in Chapel Hill, Belichick was adamant that his plan is to stay and guide this ship back in the right direction. While speaking to the media on Monday, Belichick was asked about his current vision for the program, seeing if he views this as a rebuilding process.

Belichick didn't commit to a full-on rebuild, but based on his comments, the Tar Heels are certainly working toward getting better each day.

“Yeah, again, where we are right now is where we are, and we’re working hard every day to get better, and we’re getting better. Obviously, there are other components to it, in terms of recruiting and so forth, that will all come into play later. But right now, our team is committed to having its best week of practice, going out there and playing well against Cal. And we’re 2-3, and we’re trying to get back on track, and that’s what we’re working to do.”

With all the outside noise, Belichick and his staff are simply looking to help this team improve. They are well-aware of the roster faults and have been very open in sharing how they had to piece together essentially an entire new roster. For now, they continue to work hard to produce the best possible product on the field, as they know over time that the plan is for this not to be the norm.
