"Categorically false."
That is how Bill Belichick defined the rumors that have surfaced regarding his future with the UNC football program.
Belichick met with the media on Monday morning as the Tar Heels prepare for their West Coast trip to take on California on Friday night. The Tar Heels head coach used his opening statement to set the record straight, noting that he is fully committed to the UNC football program.
What a week it has been!
At one point last week, it seemed destined that Belichick was one foot out the door at North Carolina. Whether that was his doing or the university's, all the reports (and chaos) surrounding the program made it appear as if no resolution was in sight, as it even got to the point where there was speculation of possible buyout talks between Belichick and the university.
If you were hoping that Belichick was heading out of town, you'll be disappointed to hear that he's here to stay (at least for now).
Belichick spoke about how he, and his staff, are working hard toward turning things around in Chapel Hill and made it known how the program is building on a daily basis. He cited being behind in terms of recruiting (both high school and transfer portal) given when he and his staff were hired for the job, as now the goal is to continue building the current roster while supplimenting it with talent to help take this team to the next level in years to come.
With the rumors put to bed by Belichick himself, now let's hope that the hoopla is in the past.
"We're focused on Cal."
