All seemed to be going well in regard to Michael Malone's coaching staff at North Carolina.
Earlier this week, Malone added former Providence and George Mason head coach Kim English to his staff, a move that earned very positive praise from Tar Heel faithful.
English wasted no time getting to campus, as Inside Carolina reported on Wednesday that he was already in Chapel Hill beginning this new chapter of his career.
After spending a few days at North Carolina, English had a complete change of heart, as this unexpected announcement is one that is still rather shocking to believe.

Pete Thamel of ESPN was the first to report that English has had a change of heart, electing to not take the job he was offered at North Carolina. His sudden (and stunning) departure now leaves Malone with at least one coaching vacancy to fill on his staff.
A young, experienced coach, English was seen as the perfect fit to compliment Malone, who is transitioning from the NBA to the college ranks. Also known as a strong recruiter, adding a guy like English made total sense, and his hire felt like a home run hire for the Tar Heels.
However, just like with the chaos of the transfer portal, things seem to change by the minute in every aspect of college athletics.
The real question is: why did English decide to step away from this position? Did his decision have to do with him not believing he was a fit on Malone's staff? Are there potential head coaching opportunities that he may have interest in? Is English tempted to find his way to the NBA, knowing there could be a spot for him on a coaching staff in the near future?
At this point, all we can do is speculate, but this is a very odd situation that definitely needs some explaination as to what actually happened.
