There's been a change of plans for Isaiah Denis.

After exploring his options in the transfer portal, Denis has decided that Chapel Hill is still the best place for him.

Isaiah Denis to return to UNC, withdraws name from the transfer portal

After being the first Tar Heel to enter the transfer portal following Hubert Davis' firing, it wasn't expected that Denis would have a change of heart in terms of his future plans. However, Tar Heel fans will be happy to hear that Denis, who was used sparingly during his freshman season, will be returning for his sophomore season under new head coach Michael Malone. He made the announcement on his official Instagram account on Saturday afternoon.

Denis, a Charlotte, North Carolina native, was limited to just 10 games played and a total of 34 minutes of action, most of which came in mop-up duty. It's important to remember that an injury sidelined him for a good portion of the summer workouts, a critical time for freshmen talents transitioning to the college game.

Fans clamored for more of Denis throughout the season, as the potential he showcased throughout his high school career gave Tar Heels fans hope that he could be a legitimate backcourt option for years to come. The good news is that Michael Malone and his staff will have the opportunity to unleash the beast from within the former four-star talent, as he has bought into what the Tar Heels new-look staff is selling.

This is big news for the UNC basketball program, given that Denis could be a very good depth piece for next year's roster and beyond. If he develops the way that most believe he will, this decision is one that we may look back on in a few years and see just how important this was for the building of Malone's first roster as the head basketball coach at North Carolina.

Isaiah Denis had time to consider his options, as there were a few out there for him. However, there's no place like home, and Chapel Hill is that spot for Denis as he continues his college basketball career.
