Another UNC freshman Rose to the occasion on the mound in a big postseason moment

The Tar Heels showed off their embarrassment of riches on the mound this weekend, especially when it comes to true freshman studs.

Caden Glauber has drawn plenty of attention for what he's done this season for the UNC baseball program, but he's not the only stud freshman arm that Scott Forbes has to work with.

Jackson Rose is another guy who the Tar Heels are very high on, and rightly so. Although he only made 18 appearances (6 starts) leading up to Sunday's Chapel Hill Regional final, Forbes and the UNC coaching staff have a lot of faith in the left-hander from Woodstock, Georgia.

In fact, Rose was in contention to start the game on the mound, but Forbes elected to stick with his regular Sunday starter, Folger Boaz. However, this didn't mean Rose wasn't in the plans to take the mound at all.

Following an inning in which ECU plated two runs, Rose was called upon to pitch the sixth inning. Not only did he retire the side in order, but did so in the seventh inning as well.

Before you knew it, Rose was in complete cruise control.

Other than a walk allowed in the eighth inning, Rose was simply dominant. He needed just 41 pitches to record the final 12 outs, most importantly the one that closed out the Chapel Hill Regional and clinched the Diamond Heels' berth to the Super Regionals.

Don't let his regular season usage fool you: this dude is an absolute stud on the mound. If you put him on mostly any other roster in the country, Rose, like Glauber, would be somewhere in the weekend starting rotation.

Fortunately, Forbes has tons of pitching talent to work with, and has utilized his freshmen very well throughout their first seasons on campus.

While the veterans did their thing like they typically do, the freshman showed that the future is just as bright in Chapel Hill as the present is. Rose stepped up to the occasion, and you can best believe that he's earned the right to toe the rubber during the Super Regionals at some point when his team needs him the most.
