Let's face it: if North Carolina comes calling, you would be dumb not to explore what the university has to offer.

Asa Montgomery is a guy who officially emerged on Michael Malone and UNC's radar about a month ago, showcasing firsthand how quickly his stock has risen following an excellent summer on the AAU circuit. With his recruitment heating up, Montgomery has started to identify the programs he wants to visit, setting up multiple official visits that will keep him very busy through the end of October.

Fortunately, North Carolina is one of those schools that are set to receive a visit.

Asa Montgomery locks in an official visit to North Carolina

Dushawn London of 247Sports confirmed that Montgomery has locked in eight official visits.

North Carolina will be the fifth stop on his official visits tour, serving as the first of three ACC programs that he will see along the way.

Montgomery's official visit schedule:

  • LSU: Aug. 28
  • Florida: Sept. 4
  • UConn: Sept. 11
  • Providence: Sept. 18
  • North Carolina: Sept. 25
  • Duke: Oct. 2
  • Arizona: Oct. 16
  • Louisville: Oct. 30

The 6-foot-7 forward's rankings differ by who you ask, but the common consensus seems to be that he is emerging as one of the high-rising prospects that this graduating class has to offer.

If you're looking for more context in terms of what Montgomery brings to the table, Adam Finkelstein, the 247Sports Director of Scouting, provided an in-depth analysis following this summer's action:

"We saw Montgomery in two very different contexts this summer. In the EYCL, he was a volume scorer with the ultimate green light. Everything went through him and he put up a whopping 27.9 points on 54/34/76 shooting along with 10.2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3.3 stocks (1.4 steals and 1.9 blocks) per game. With USA Basketball though, he bought into being a role playing four. He provided energy, offensive rebounding, cutting, defensive versatility, and playmaking within their full-court pressure, even though he was surprisingly reluctant to shoot at times."

Michael Malone made it very clear that UNC won't take a backseat to anyone on the recruiting trail under his watch. While North Carolina hasn't been a program that has secured many of the five-star talents that dominate the headlines, Malone is aiming to change that narrative.

Of course, not every prospect you land is a five-star, top-five-ranked guy. However, guys who might fly under the radar are also very important for recruiting classes, as those guys typically do make the biggest impact long-term. As we all know, sometimes players aren't ranked as high as they should be, and end up proving everyone wrong in the end.

Simply put, Montgomery has the makings of being one of those guys.

When you hear about the up-and-coming stars of the 2027 recruiting class, you'll likely hear some type of news that UNC is involved in some way, shape, or form. The fact that UNC is getting a visit from Montgomery after jumping into his recruitment a month ago speaks volumes to the efforts the coaching staff are putting in on the recruiting trail, as they are fully invested in bringing the top players available to Chapel Hill.
