How could things get any better? Don't forget that recently, a prediction came in for North Carolina to land 5-star point guard Dylan Mingo, one of the top prospects overall for the 2026 class. Rumors are swirling that Mingo could get ready to shut down his recruitment any day now. With the Tar Heels fired up after beating the Blue Devils, could Mingo make everyone even happier by committing to Hubert Davis at some point this week?
5-star PG Dylan Mingo potentially committing to UNC would make fans even happier
While there's no set timeframe for when Mingo is going to shut things down, his process really has a feel that it could go down at any minute. The Tar Heels are of course riding the high of winning one of the best rivalry games in all of sports, but landing Mingo is going to be the cherry on top.
However, before we get too excited, keep in mind that nothing is set in stone here and Mingo is still down to four schools: UNC, Penn State, Baylor and Washington. It wasn't that long ago that Baylor was the favorite, with multiple predictions even coming in for the Big 12 school to pull things off.
Luckily for Davis and UNC, Mingo decided to push back an original commitment date he had this winter, opening the door for the Tar Heels to make additional pitches to him. Clearly, Mingo has been quite impressed with what he's seeing out of the ACC powerhouse.
Could the thrilling win over Duke on Saturday night prove to be what sends things over the line? Hey, you never know. What we do know is that the Tar Heels are on cloud nine after that win over the Blue Devils and this team is fired up to keep making noise the rest of the season. Looking to the future, bringing Mingo to campus would be MAJOR for Davis. Soon enough, we'll see if North Carolina can reel Mingo in, but things sure are looking good there.
