Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje hasn't been at Duke for very long, but he fits right in with regard to throwing shade toward North Carolina.
One of the Blue Devils' newest recruits from Spain, Boumtje-Boumtje, a five-star recruit, discussed why he chose to go to Duke on a recent podcast appearance.
To no surprise, he just had to throw some shade at UNC in the process!
Joaquim Boumtje-Boumtje wastes no time throwing shade at UNC
Below is the clip detailing what he had to say:
“I feel like I would’ve been missing out on Duke if I went to UNC. For Duke, I didn’t feel that way for the other schools”

"I like a lot of the schools that I had offers from, but at the end of the day, I think the thing that sold it was if I go to one of these schools, I feel like I'm missing out on Duke," Boumtje-Boumtje said. "For Duke, I didn't, I didn't feel that way for the other schools. Like, I didn't feel like I was missing out on going to, I don't know, UNC, for example.
Like, it would've been great, but I feel like I would've been missing out on Duke if I had gone to UNC."
Of all the schools that recruited him, the one he just couldn't resist mentioning here was UNC!
In his own words, Boumtje-Boumtje said he felt he would be "missing out" if he chose North Carolina over Duke. What exactly he'd be missing out on he didn't discuss, but maybe he just wants to experience how it feels to lose to North Carolina on the basketball court.
Or maybe, just maybe, he doesn't want to miss out on being part of Duke's latest team of five-stars that chokes in the NCAA Tournament!
All jokes aside, let's cut the kid some slack: UNC was likely the first program to come to mind while discussing this topic. However, he could've just been generic with his response, indicating that he felt something at Duke that he didn't experience elsewhere during his recruitment process.
Even Darryn Peterson was left speechless with Caleb Wilson’s monster Summer League dunk
Instead, Boumtje-Boumtje wasted no time throwing some early shade toward his new rival, a program that also recruited him heavily this offseason. Good for him finding that place that makes him happy, but there's no need for bogus statements like the one he made about UNC.
This clip has the makings of being absolute gold if Michael Malone and the Tar Heels can beat their rival this upcoming season and during Boumtje-Boumtje's time on campus in Durham. You already know there are fans out there who are keeping receipts for when that right time comes along to reshare it!
