Michael Malone and the UNC basketball program are still working diligently to fill the rest of the roster for the upcoming 2026-2027 season.
The pieces are starting to come together, both in terms of roster pieces as well as coaching hires. While the Tar Heels have gotten a lot accomplished since Malone's arrival in Chapel Hill, there is still some things that need to be taken care of.
Completing the roster is the top priority at the current moment.
At this point in time, there's a trio of available players that UNC fans should be locked in on as the offseason continues to roll along:
Kevin Thomas
A surprise recruiting target for the UNC basketball program, Kevin Thomas, a four-star recruit who was previously committed to LSU, was scheduled to visit Chapel Hill this week.
Thomas wasn't a name we heard much about until the news of his official visit surfaced, but there's a lot to like about his game.
As a guy who could be a developmental piece for Michael Malone and the Tar Heels staff to work with, Thomas might be one of those diamond-in-the-rough type of additions. In need of additional size and length, Thomas has promising upside as a defender and has also shown some flashes offensively, and the coaching staff must see potential they would love to try to unlock.
Alexandros Samodurov
North Carolina has been heavily linked to Alexandros Samodurov, a 6-foot-11 big man currently in the NBA Draft process. A former teammate of Neoklis Avdalas, Samodurov makes a ton of sense for the UNC basketball program if he does elect to play at the collegiate level next season.
Samodurov is described as a big forward with a ton of versatility on both ends of the floor. He isn't a traditional stationary post piece, which is good given how the landscape of college basketball has changed in recent years, as it's vital for big men to stretch the floor and do more than just look for touches near the basket.
In need of additional depth in the frontcourt, Samodurov is one of the top remaining options on the market, and if he decides to withdraw from the NBA Draft, expect UNC to put on the full-court press to lure him to Chapel Hill.
Brice Dessert
While the noise around Dessert hasn't been as loud as the other two mentioned prospects, Dessert is still a guy to keep tabs on as UNC aims to bolster its frontcourt.
An experienced big man, Dessert has drawn attention from multiple big-name programs, including North Carolina. While the Tar Heels might not be the favorite at this point in time, don't be surprised if they make a last-ditch effort to add him if other options don't pan out the way they hoped they would.
Needless to say: duo of Sayon Keita and Dessert would be quite the mix for Malone to work with!
