UNC Football: Mack Brown responds to NCAA’s statement
The UNC football program’s head coach is not backing down from how he and the program have handled the Tez Walker situation.
On Tuesday, the Division I Board took a direct shot at the University of North Carolina, specifically Mack Brown, the head coach of the UNC football program.
The statement was released to address the issues surrounding the Devontez ‘Tez’ Walker eligibility situation, as the NCAA is claiming that threats have been made toward the board because of this case. They went on to bash the University of North Carolina for how they’ve handled the situation.
On Wednesday, Brown had a chance to speak his mind, as he is not backing down from how he, and the school as a whole, have supported the student-athlete throughout the process.
"“I’m not going to apologize for standing up and trying to do what’s best for our young person, and making sure that he understands that we have exhausted every possibility that we can to help him. Because if we haven’t, then we’re not doing our job. And none of this was to embarrass anybody, to get anybody threats. The only thing we’ve done is take up for our player. And I’m very proud of that. And if I had to do it over again, I’d do exactly the same thing.” “I totally respect the the chairman of the Division I committee standing up for the volunteers and his staff. And that’s what we all do. And if somebody is harassing the staff, threatening the staff, or has wronged the staff — that’s wrong, and that should stop, and it should stop immediately. And you don’t want to create mental health problems for those families and the people that are involved because they’re trying to do their job. So absolutely wrong. And I absolutely agree with him. And that’s exactly the same reason that the administration and I stood up for Tez Walker, because we thought he was wronged. And we felt like that he was treated poorly.”"
Brown rightfully admits that any harassment and threats made towards the staff of the committee should stop immediately, as this method is absolutely wrong. He went on to say that the administration of the school and himself have stood up for Walker because they feel he has been and continues to be treated poorly as he just looks to compete for his new team.
For now, the saga continues…
