The country music superstar and die-hard UNC football fan made sure he showed his support for wide receiver Devontez ‘Tez’ Walker.

Country music star Eric Church used his role as the UNC football program’s honorary captain to make a statement.

When Church walked onto the field with the Tar Heels captains, he was, of course, wearing Carolina Blue to represent his favorite team. However, when you take a closer look, Church had on a UNC football jersey, one that had a special meaning towards it.

Church was wearing a No. 9 jersey in honor of Devontez ‘Tez’ Walker, who is still deemed ineligible by the NCAA. Walker’s eligibility has been one of the major storylines surrounding the UNC football program, as the University of North Carolina has made every effort to encourage the NCAA to change its prior decision on the star wide receiver.

Among celebrities who are fans of the University of North Carolina, there might not be a bigger fan than Church. The country music superstar made a huge statement during his appearance on mid-field during the coin toss, as he showed that he is a big supporter of the #FreeTez movement.

Hopefully, the NCAA allows Walker to play this season, as it’s a shame that he not only missed the UNC football program’s season opener but also didn’t have the opportunity to play in front of his family who live in the area.

We’ll have to wait and see if the support from the Tar Heel faithful, including Church, can help the NCAA see that their original ruling should be overturned.
