The UNC football program will be represented by one of country music’s biggest stars before the Duke’s Mayo Classic against South Carolina.

When the UNC football program takes the field on Saturday night, they’ll be represented by one of country music’s biggest stars during the coin toss.

As part of the Duke’s Mayo Classic, each team will have a celebrity serve as an honorary captain. For South Carolina, die-hard fan (and country music artist) Darius Rucker will be their captain, while Eric Church, a country music superstar who has not been shy about showing his love for the Tar Heels, will represent North Carolina.

Rucker has a busy day in Charlotte planned, as he began the day as the celebrity guest picker on ESPN’s College GameDay. To no surprise, Rucker sided with the Gamecocks when the panel made their selections for the upcoming contest. He will not only serve as the honorary captain but is scheduled to sing the national anthem as well.

Church is so loyal to the University of North Carolina that he canceled a sold-out show in order to be at the Final Four game against Duke in 2022.

Based on his past appearances at North Carolina sporting events, don’t be surprised to see Church wearing a lot of Carolina blue to show which team he sides with!

UNC football captains Drake Maye, Cedric Gray, and John Copenhaver will be joined by Church for the season-opening coin toss. Given the hype surrounding this event, it’s cool to see that each program will be represented by not only two very passionate fans but also by two men who have made quite a name for themselves in the country music world.
