Courtney Banghart and the UNC women’s basketball program will compete in the 2023 Gulf Coast Showcase during Thanksgiving week.

While Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program are heading to the Bahamas for Thanksgiving week, Courtney Banghart and the UNC women’s basketball team are heading to Estero, Florida.

North Carolina will be competing in the Gulf Coast Showcase, an event that is scheduled to begin on November 24. Banghart and the Tar Heels will battle Vermont in their opening-round matchup.

Right from the word go, the UNC women’s basketball program will be challenged in this showcase. Vermont returns all five of its starters from a squad that made the NCAA Tournament a season ago, and a win in the opening round could result in a semi-final matchup with top-25-ranked Kansas State.

The headliner would potentially come in the finals, as the Tar Heels could potentially see Caitlin Clark and Iowa. Of course, North Carolina has to take care of business first, but a matchup with the Hawkeyes would mean that the Tar Heels would have three of last year’s Final Four teams on this year’s schedule.

Banghart and the Tar Heels know that it matters who you play come NCAA Tournament seeding time in March. In order to be the best, you have to compete against and beat the best, as the UNC women’s basketball program is ready for the challenges that their very tough 2023-2024 schedule will bring them.
