With plenty of rumors surrounding UNC basketball pledge Ian Jackson’s future, the five-star guard set the record straight.

Fans of the UNC basketball program were stunned when Simeon Wilcher announced that he will not be heading to Chapel Hill.

To go along with Wilcher’s decision, there were also rumors swirling around five-star Class of 2024 guard Ian Jackson. As Jackson was a potential reclassification candidate, it was also rumored that the Cardinal Hayes standout may look to reopen his recruitment.

Tar Heels fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Jackson set the record straight in a quote when he spoke to 247Sports:

"“I have considered (reclassifying) but I feel as if I want to take this year to prepare my body and my mind to walk into UNC as a professional. I’m 100-percent committed to UNC and will join the program next season (2024-25).”"

Although he considered reclassifying, Jackson has decided to stay in the Class of 2024. In his quote, he also assured that he is still fully committed to the UNC basketball program, as he’ll join the team for the 2024-2025 season.

As the No. 5 ranked player in his class, the Bronx, New York native will look to use his senior year of high school as an opportunity to improve and grow before making his way to Chapel Hill.

Of course, anything can happen in this new world of college basketball, but it’s good to hear Jackson confirming his commitment to the program. With social media being such an active part of college athletics, this probably won’t be the last time that rumors swirl around a potential UNC basketball recruit.

However, until we hear otherwise from Jackson himself, just know that he’s still fully committed to the University of North Carolina.
